Mountain Lions End Weekend Opener 1-1

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team finish the weekend with a 1-1 record as they fall to Black Hills State University, 56-72. 
 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP 
Final: UCCS 56, Black Hills State 72  
Records: UCCS (1-1, 1-1 RMAC), Black Hills State (4-1, 4-1 RMAC) 
Location: Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo. 
All-Time Series: UCCS leads the series, 11-5.  The Mountain Lions were on a one-game winning streak and have won nine of their last games against the Yellow Jackets. 
  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Yellow Jackets got an early lead getting their first points at the line just 11 seconds into the game.  The Mountain Lions held them to two for the next four minutes and ended the first quarter up by two, 19-17.
  • UCCS struggled at the start of the second quarter with BHSU going on an 11-2 streak for the first five minutes.
  • BHSU's defense proved to be difficult for UCCS to get past holding them to just a 33.3% field goal percentage in the first half, 31-42.
  • Bo Shaffer put in work coming into the second half scoring the first six points and two steals in the third quarter for the Mountain Lions.
  • The Yellow Jackets started pulling away in the fourth quarter to finish the game 56-72.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME 
  • The Mountain Lions had 23 points come from the bench and seven from second chance shots.
  • Kaity Hovasse helped defensively finishing the game with three steals and sinking 3-of-7 shots (42.9 percent) from the field.  Hovasse also added two assists and two rebounds to her stats.
  • Abby Feickert led the team with 12 points, shooting 60 percent (3-for-5), 50 percent behind the arc (2-for-4), and sinking all four taken at the free throw line.
  • UCCS' defense forced 19 turnovers and had six blocks. 
 
UP NEXT 
The Mountain Lions are scheduled to play at Colorado Mesa on Monday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a game at Westminster College on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 5:30 pm.
