COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball program has added Alexa Dominguez and Maison White to the 2021-22 team, announced today by Mountain Lions head coach
Lynn Plett.
A soon-to-be graduate of Mullen High School, Alexa Dominguez has averaged 5.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.2 assists per game in her career with the Mustangs. The 5-foot-8 guard from Littleton, Colo. has been named All-League Honorable Mention twice, and to the Academic All-State team. She has guided the Mustangs to the 2019 and 2020 4A state championship.
"Alexa has played at a very highly competitive and successful level in high school at Mullen High School which has been one of the top girls basketball programs in the state of Colorado," commented Plett. "She is the kind of player who does a lot of positive things for a team behind the scenes. Things like guarding the opponent's best player, getting a defensive rebound to seal a victory, blocking out her player so her teammate can get the rebound, making a steal to change the momentum of a game, or getting an offensive rebound and scoring at a crucial time. Alexa is a competitor who welcomes challenges and has the toughness and intelligence on the court to find a way for her team to be successful. She will be a great addition to our team both on and off the court."
A 6-foot-0 forward from Granstville High School in Grantsville, Utah, Maison White has recorded 819 career points, 473 rebounds, 109 steals and 48 assists heading into her senior season with the Cowboys. She enters this season averaging 11.2 career points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. Named to the All-County Team and the All-County MVP, White helped GHS to three straight final four appearances, including the 2018-19 championship game, and has won back-to-back Region 13 championship titles. In three seasons at GHS, she has been named to the Utah 3A All-Tournament Tea, and to the Utah 3A All-State First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention. A three-sport athlete (softball and volleyball), White has earned the Superintendent Award three times and the 3A Softball Academic Team award. She has been a part of two Utah 3A softball state championships.
"Maison fits very well into our style of play," said Plett. "She runs the floor in transition, aggressively rebounds and scores consistently around the basket. At six feet, she has the physical ability and tenacity to defend bigger players inside, but has the quickness and versatility to guard on the perimeter as well. She has improved every season of her high school career nearly averaging a double-double during her junior season. I believe Maison will be a tremendous addition to our team and has the potential to become an exceptional player for us."
The Mountain Lions are scheduled to open the 2020-21 season at home in December.
