Mountain Lions Post 31 Consecutive Semesters of 3.00 Department GPA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs athletic department have extended their streak of earning at least a 3.00 grade point average to 31 consecutive semesters as the Mountain Lions boasted a 3.27 GPA during the fall semester among all 16 NCAA DII Programs.

Out of the 16 NCAA DII Programs, four UCCS teams posted a 3.5 GPA or higher. Softball led the way with a department high 3.63 GPA for the fall semester as women's cross country followed up with a 3.62 GPA, as women's volleyball and women's basketball notched 3.59 and 3.55 GPAs respectively.

"It always brings me great pride to congratulate our student athletes on achieving another semester of a 3.0+ department GPA," said Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson. "This accomplishment is a foundational piece of our department as we set out to, first and foremost, achieve in the classroom.  I also want to thank all of our coaches and staff as well as all of the UCCS faculty for all of their efforts to support our student athletes in their continued academic success."

In addition, men's and women's soccer student-athletes Alex VonHolle and Aleesa Muir were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans with VonHolle, Muir, and volleyball student-athlete Grace Nelson earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

At the conference level, a total of 47 seven Mountain Lions were selected to the RMAC All-Academic team, including seven RMAC All-Academic First Team selections.

The Mountain Lions will now wait until February for the next batch of academic awards as both men's and women's basketball academic teams will be announced.
