Volleyball wraps up Orediggers Classic against Lubbock Christian and Dallas Baptist

GOLDEN, Colo. – After posting their first win of the season Friday night at the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers Volleyball Classic, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team lost two decisions to Lubbock Christian University, 3-2, and Dallas Baptist University, 3-0.
 
In the morning match against the Chaps, the Mountain Lions were downed in the first two sets but responded to tie the match after taking sets three and four, 25-19 and 29-27.  In the fourth set, freshman setter Emily Ettel posted set assists to Julia Geiger, Hannah Ammerman and Lauryn Shockley as the Mountain Lions finished the set scoring three of the final four points. Shockley, who scored the final point of the fourth set with a kill, led UCCS with 16 kills against the Chaps.
 
Josie Russell added nine kills and hit .231 while assisting on four blocks.  Ettel, who also added four kills and two service aces, notched 39 assists.
 
The back row defense was led by Jordyn Kinsey's 25 digs.  Kinsey was also active with her hands, setting up five assists for the front row offense.
 
In the last match of the weekend, UCCS was swept for the first time this season, -20, -18 and -22.
 
The Mountain Lions served a season high eight aces against DBU.  Ettel and Raelynn Edge combined for seven aces as Ettel dished out a match high four dimes.
 
Taylor Smith, Russell and Ammerman each threw down seven kills while Kinsey dug up 16 attacks.  The Mountain Lions were held to a .153 hitting mark and 46 points.
 
UCCS (1-3) will play host 12 matches at the Mountain Lion Classic Sept. 12-14.  The Mountain Lions will open their home season on Thursday against Angelo State at 6 p.m.
