PREVIEW | Men's Soccer to Host set of Round Robin Games for Home Opener

This Week's Games
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team will be hosting a set of round robin games at Mountain Lion Stadium this weekend featuring Fort Lewis College, St. Mary's University (TX) and St. Edward's University.
  • On Friday, September 13, UCCS will take on St. Mary's (TX) (SMU) at 7 p.m.
  • On Sunday, September 15, UCCS will play St. Edward's (SEU) at 2:30 p.m.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • The Mountain Lions struggled in their season opener as the fell to Lubbock Christian University 0-1 last Friday.
  • After a scoreless first half, LCU was able to score in the 55th minute to give themselves the lead. That goal would prove to be the winner as UCCS could not find the net.
  • Shots by both teams were even at nine total, three on goal for each team.
  • UCCS had the edge in shots in the second half with six to LCU's four.
  • The Mountain Lions will hope to fair better this week and get back on track.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • Only one team in the RMAC was able to get through the first weekend unscathed and it was Westminster. The remaining teams either went 1-1 (Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, Dixie State, MSU Denver) defeated this past weekend.
The Series
  • Against SMU, UCCS has a record of 2-3-1 all-time. In the most recent game, UCCS and SMU played to a 2-2 draw last season.
  • UCCS does hold a 1-0 home record against SMU, which should play in their favor this weekend.
  • Against SEU, the Mountain Lions have 1-2 record all-time. Last season the two teams met and SEU took the game by a score of 1-0.
  • Much like SMU, home field advantage should play a pivotal role in the game as the Mountain Lions hold a 1-0 home record against SEU.
Scouting the Opponent
  • SMU won both of their opening games this weekend against Metropolitan State University – Denver and #16 Colorado School of Mines for their 2-0 record.
  • The Rattlers have scored six goals on 24 shots (14 on goal) while allowing only two. They also have five assists and a shots on goal percentage of 58 percent.
  • Individually, midfielders Ollie Wright and Luis Sanchez are leading the Rattlers in in goals and points with two goals and four points each. Fellow midfielder Liam Morrison is leading the team in assists with two.
  • Goalkeeper Jacob Sayle has one save to go along with his 2-0 record.
  • SEU had a much different start to the year as they lost both of their opening games to the same teams SMU defeated. SEU was shutout by both MSU – Denver and #16 Colorado School of Mines for their 0-2 record.
  • SEU has gotten of 28 shots so far this season, but to no avail as only seven have been on goal and none have found the net.
  • Individually, Parker Fyfe has taken the most shots on the team at five and Michalis Clark has had the most shots on goal with two.
  • Goalkeeper Marko Lilic has two saves on six shots on goal this in his two starts.
Hot Takes
  • It was a tough start for the Mountain Lions as they were not able to find the net in their season opener.
  • Two underclassmen were the offensive leaders for UCCS as Adam Baldwin and Jared Sinkinson led the team in shots with two each, while Baldwin had two shots on goal to Sinkinson's one.
  • In the first half, UCCS had the edge in shots on goal as two of their three shots were on target, as opposed to none for the Chaps.
  • In the second half, UCCS got off six shots to LCU's four, but managed to only get one on target.

  • The forecast in Colorado Springs for this Friday, September 13 shows sunny skies and a high temperature of 79 degrees, with a low of 50 degrees. Winds are expected to gust up to 12 miles per hour.
  • On Sunday, September 15 the forecast shows mostly sunny skies and a high of 86 degrees. Winds are expected to gust up to 11 miles per hour.
UCCS Under Head Coach Brian Miller
  • The Mountain Lions are now 10-7-3 under coach Miller, which is the best start in program history through a coach's first 20 games.
Upcoming Games
  • UCCS will be traveling to Denver, Colo. and Golden, Colo. for two RMAC matchups next weekend.
  • On Friday, September 20 the Mountain Lions will play Regis University at 4 p.m. on the RU Match Pitch.
  • On Sunday, September 22 UCCS will take on #16 Colorado School of Mines at 2:30 p.m.
