Reidhead Pitches One-Hitter in 15-0 Win over Yellow Jackets

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Taylor Reidhead pitched a one-hit, five-inning shutout Saturday afternoon to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team to a 15-0 win against Black Hills State University.  Game two of the series was halted in the second inning due to heavy snowfall.

The series was originally scheduled to be played in Spearfish, S.D., but the games were moved to Mountain Lion Field due to unplayable field conditions at BHSU.  As a result, the Mountain Lions are serving as the visiting team, while the Yellow Jackets are the home team.

Reidhead held a no-hitter until the fifth inning when BHSU hit single just past first base.  She finished the game striking out 10 batters and only facing 17 for the game.

Offensively, The Mountain Lions accounted for 10 hits with Alex Cook, Payton Romines and Leigh Lancaster each pulling off two hits.

Cook registered two of her five runs batted in in the first inning with a two-run home run over the left field fence. With the bases loaded in the first, Lancaster's single up the middle scored Sawyer Brewster and Romines for a 4-0 lead.

Cook added another RBI in the second inning when Amanda Nobles scored to give UCCS a 5-0 lead.

Reidhead retired five of the first six batters for BHSU with strikeouts, leading all five batters to strike out swinging.

In the first four innings, Reidhead and the Mountain Lions defense forced BHSU to three-up, three-down in three innings.  The only batter to reach first base in the first four innings was on a walk.

Leading 6-0 heading into the fifth inning, the Mountain Lions blew the game open with nine runs on five hits to run-rule the Yellow Jackets, 15-0.  Thirteen Mountain Lions batted in the fifth inning as three walks were drawn and three extra-base hits, including two home runs from Romines and Peyton Reisman.  Reidhead led off the inning and drew two walks through two plate appearances.  Romines tallied two hits and scored twice with two RBI.

Game two of the series will resume Sunday at 10 a.m., followed by the final two games of the series.
