COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team lost a 16-14 decision against rival Colorado State University-Pueblo Monday night at Mountain Lion Stadium. The setback moves the Mountain Lions to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. CSU-Pueblo improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league matches.
Both teams traded the first four goals of the game before
Angela Naughton scored back-to-back free position goals to give UCCS their first lead of the game, 3-2, eight minutes from the first draw control.
In the next 22 minutes until halftime, both teams tied the game four times with the lead changing three times. A yellow card was assessed to the Pack's goalie with one second left in the first stanza and
Mallory Corrigan took advantage of the penalty, scoring a goal to tie the game as time ran out to knot the match at 7-7.
Eight of the 14 first half goals were free position goals as both teams combined for five yellow cards.
The Mountain Lions came out of halftime to score two straight goals in the first five minutes to take just their second lead of the game.
Brianna Martinez netted her 11
th goal of the season right before Naughton notched her third goal of the game. Naughton's goal came with UCCS playing a player down and gave the Mountain Lions a 9-7 lead.
Five minutes and two goals later, the game was knotted for the seventh time. Martinez gave UCCS a 10-9 lead with 18:51 remaining, but the Pack answered to rattle off five straight goals, including three consecutive goals from Allison Wurscher and back-to-back goals from Emilly Eller.

The Mountain Lions outscored CSUP 3-2 in the final 6:11 of action but could not come within more than two goals as time expired.
Sixteen yellow cards were issued between the two teams with UCCS receiving 10 cards. The Mountain Lions were also assessed 29 fouls to CSU-Pueblo's 20.
UCCS outshot the ThunderWolves, 37-28, and edged the Pack on draw controls, 16-15. Both teams totaled 51 clear attempts as the Mountain Lions were successful on 18-of-21 attempts.
Naughton and Martinez each scored three goals to lead the Mountain Lions offense. In seven games, Naughton has tallied four hat tricks and Martinez has chipped in two. Naughton also added an assist and attempted a game high eight shots.
Church, who assisted on two goals, tied Naughton for a game high six draw controls.
Kiera Lowe contributed two goals, two assists, picked up four ground balls and shot the ball five times.
Kennedy Travis suffered her first loss in goal as she made nine saves and allowed 13 goals in 55 minutes of action.
Wurscher led all players with five goals and three assists.
UCCS will play host to No. 23 New York Institute of Technology on Friday at 2 p.m.
