Mountain Lions Fall at No. 14 Colorado School of Mines on Last Second Free Throw

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team fell at No. 14 Colorado School of Mines Friday night on a last second free throw, 81-80.  Tonight's game was the final contest of the regular season.

Elijah Ross found Blend Avdili who drilled a three-pointer with three seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 80-80.  A foul by UCCS on the ensuing in-bounds play resulted in the Orediggers shooting two free throws.  CSM made the first free throw with three seconds left and intentionally missed the second to run out the clock, handing UCCS a one-point setback.

The Mountain Lions trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half but brought the deficit down to three points at halftime, 39-36.

Dalton Walker made two free throws with 10:57 left in regulation giving UCCS a 61-60 lead.  It would be the Mountain Lions last lead of the game.  After Walker's free throws, UCCS would trail by as many as six points in the second half.  Ross tied the game for the sixth time after he made two from the charity stripe with 43 ticks remaining.  The Orediggers sank a field goal and a free throw to go up by three again before Avidili's game-tying trey with three seconds left.

Avdili came off the bench to lead UCCS with 26 points.  He made 9-of-12 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from three point range and both free throws.

DaRaun Clark was perfect on all four of his free throw attempts and made 4-of-8 from the floor for 12 points.  Walker finished with nine points and Ian MacDonald chipped in eight points, four rebounds and blocked three shots.

UCCS made 27-of-62 field goals (43.5 percent) and 10-of-23 treys (43.5 percent), while making 16-of-20 free throws.

The Mountain Lions out-rebounded the Orediggers by one, 37-36, and outscored CSM in the paint, 34-32.

UCCS finishes the regular season 17-11 overall and tied for fifth place in the league stan
