Walker’s Threes Sink ThunderWolves, 97-84

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior Dalton Walker hit eight three-pointers and matched a career high 30 points to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team to a 97-84 win over Colorado State University-Pueblo Friday night in Gallgoly Events Center.
 
The win snaps a six-game losing streak to the ThunderWolves as the Mountain Lions improve to 15-9 on the season and 12-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss drops CSU-Pueblo to 6-18 overall and 4-14 in league games.
 
Both teams swapped leads in the first half but the Mountain Lions never trailed by more than five points.  Despite shooting only 29.7 percent from the floor in the first half, the Mountain Lions took a 40-39 lead at halftime after Isaiah Wilson made both free throw shots to end the half.
 
The second half was a different story for the Mountain Lions as they dominated the Pack and led the entire 20 minutes.  UCCS started the half outscoring CSU-Pueblo 14-6 in the first four minutes.  CSU-Pueblo came within one point of the Mountain Lions, 54-53, but UCCS went on another huge run to outscore the ThunderWolves, 20-6, over a five-minute span.  Nine of the points came from Walker who sank three three-pointers.
 
At the 4:13 mark in the second half, Walker made two from the charity stripe to record UCCS' largest lead of the game, 85-69.
 
Twelve of the Mountain Lions final 14 points came from the free throw.  UCCS made 12-of-14 in the last four minutes of action to seal the win.
 
Walker finished the game sinking 8-of-13 from behind the arc and 9-of-16 from the floor.  He added four free throws and three rebounds.
 
Titus Reed came off the bench to net 17 point on 4-of-5 field goals, including three from long range, and 6-of-7 free throws.
 
Padiet Wang recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  He added six assists, three steals and blocked two shots.
 
Isaiah Wilson dished out a game high seven dimes to go with his 10 points and three steals.  All 10 of his points came from the charity stripe as he was perfect on all 10 attempts.
 
The Mountain Lions edged CSU-Pueblo on the boards, 44-43, and scored 22 points off the Pack's 15 turnovers.
 
UCCS will play their final home game of the regular season Saturday night against New Mexico Highlands University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
