COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team notched their seventh win of the season Friday night against Northern New Mexico College by a score of 63-47. That brings the Mountain Lions' record to 7-3 overall this season.
UCCS finished the game shooting 41.5 percent from the field (22-53 FG) and 25 percent from beyond the arc (5-20 3PT). However, the Mountain Lions again showed off their defensive prowess as they held the Eagles to 31 percent shooting for the game (18-58 FG), including a mere 22.6 percent in the first half. The Mountain Lions also outrebounded NNMC 47-34, dished out 12 assists and recorded nine steals in the game.
Alijah Comithier was the top scorer for UCCS with a game high 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting. He also added six boards and two steals to his stat line.
Blend Avdili followed suit with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting including 2-of-5 from long range. Avdili also hauled in a game high eight rebounds.
In the first half, UCCS put the pressure on NNMC defensively and built as much as a 25-point lead in the half. After only allowing seven field goals in the half, UCCS took a 31-18 into halftime.
The second half featured more offense from both teams, with UCCS shooting 50 percent in the half (12-24) and NNMC shooting 40.7 percent (11-27). However, the Mountain Lion lead proved to be insurmountable for NMMC as UCCS cruised to their seventh win.
UCCS is back in action after the holidays as they get set to continue their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule. The Mountain Lions will be in Utah to start the New Year taking on Dixie State University on Friday, January 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Westminster College on Saturday, January 4 at 7:30 p.m.
