COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – At a final score of 2-1, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team falls to Dixie State University in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships on Sunday at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Entering the match as the number one seed in the south central region, UCCS (19-2-0, 13-0-0 RMAC) received a first round bye and home field advantage as DSU (12-4-4, 8-2-3 RMAC) made their way to the second round after edging out Texas Woman's University 4-3 in PKs in the first round on Friday.
In the contest, UCCS came to hold the advantage in shots (20-10), saves (6-4), and corner kicks (6-3) over DSU, but the Trailblazers made their shots count as they held the advantage in shots on goal 8-5. Sophomore forward

Sunday's second round match saw both teams showing their defensive strengths as the first 20 minutes had a total of three shots with the Trailblazers having the only shot on goal. At the 20
th minute, DSU broke the scoreless tie as Whitley John buried a shot from the right side of the box into the inside of the far post for a 1-0 Trailblazer lead.
It was a wakeup call for the Mountain Lions and Mills answered with a score of her own as Hopcroft gathered a pass from the top of the box and slotted a pass to the right side of the box where Mills finished inside the far post for the equalizer in the 28

UCCS seemed to hit their offensive after tying the match in the first half as they created scoring opportunities, but could not quite string together a score as the Mountain Lions tallied four shots including a Hopcroft shot that landed top woodwork and just missed slipping in a shot for the score.
In the second half, the Trailblazers struck again and took their second lead of the match as DSU's Joci Cook-Dandos caught keeper
Mollee Swift out of frame. The UCCS goalkeeper initially put a hand on Cook-Dandos' possession but the Trailblazer forward was able gather the ball back int her possession and sent it to the back of the net in the 58
th minute for the 2-1 advantage.
After the go-ahead goal, the Mountain Lions got off eight shots to try and net the equalizer, but the Trailblazers remained steady on their backline and kept UCCS out of frame to seal the 2-1 win.
UCCS' Swift finished the match with six saves in frame, tying her season high for the second time this season.
The Mountain Lions had a historic season as they posted the only number one national ranking in school history, while notching the most wins (19) in a single season, recording the highest winning percentage in a single season (.905), and registering the longest winning streak (19) in program history. This season also marks the first time in program history that they have hosted the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament as the number one seed. The 2019 UCCS offense is one of the top in the nation as they currently rank as the top scoring offense in the South Central Region with 3.30 goals per game, as they also set new team records for most goals (67), points (187), and assists (53) in a season in program history.
