BELLINGHAM, Wash. – In their final game of the non-conference season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team lost a 62-41 decision Saturday night to Western Washington University at the WECU Court at Carver Gym in Bellingham, Wash.
The Mountain Lions (1-5) played the Vikings tight in the first quarter, trailing only by four points after 10 minutes of action, 20-16. UCCS hit both three-point attempts in the opening stanza and finished the quarter making 7-of-14 field goals.
UCCS turned cold in the second quarter, making only three field goals as they were held to six points while the Vikings put up 10 points to take a 30-22 lead at intermission.
The Mountain Lions were outscored in the second half, 32-19, after hitting 7-of-31 from the floor.
Madi Gaibler led UCCS with 12 points and six rebounds. She added an assist, steal and a blocked shot. All six of
Makenna Baker's rebounds came on the defensive end of the court. Baker chipped in five points and assist.
Both of
Chelsea Pearson's field goals on the night came from behind the arc. She finished with seven points while adding a free throw.
The Mountain Lions shot 28.8 percent from the floor (17-of-59) and 44.4 percent from long range (4-of-9). UCCS attempted only four free throws, sinking three, while WWU made 11-of-13 free throws.
The Vikings Anna Schwecke led all players with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
UCCS will play an exhibition game on Dec. 2 against Northern New Mexico at 5:30 p.m.
