COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The fifth ranked team in NCAA Division II handed the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team a 3-1 loss Tuesday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. No. 8 seed UCCS dropped the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19, before taking set three against the top seeded Rangers, 26-24. RU won the fourth and final set by a score of 25-16.
Lauryn Shockley and
Grace Nelson combined for 27 kills tonight. Shockley hit a solid .265 behind 14 kills and 34 attempts.
Josie Russell was on target offensively, accumulating nine kills and a .444 hitting mark.
Raelynn Edge accounted for 44 of the Mountain Lions 45 assists. She added two aces on the night. The back-row defense was led by
Jordyn Kinsey's 11 digs.
Aly Morgan chipped in nine digs while Edge, Shockley and
Taylor Smith each posted eight digs.
As a team, UCCS hit .101 in the match as the Rangers pounded the ball at a .328 clip. RU registered only one more kill than UCCS, 50-49, but UCCS committed 34 attack errors to Regis' 12.
Regis finished the match with 17 blocks, 11 more UCCS. Nikki Kennedy led the Rangers with 13 kills and six blocks.
The loss ends the Mountain Lions season with a 10-17 overall record (8-10 RMAC).
