COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team held off the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers Saturday afternoon, 76-70, at Gallogly Events Center. In a closely fought contest, both teams contained each other within single digit points until the Mountain Lions broke lose in the second half to snag a 10-point lead with just under five minutes remaining.
Today's win is the third straight for the Mountain Lions as they move to 3-0 on the season, while the Lopers drop to 1-3.
DaRaun Clark led all scores with 25 points after drilling seven field goals and eight free throws. Nine of his points came from three-point range. On the defensive end of the court, Clark blocked three shots, tying him with game high honors with
William Becker's three stuffs.
Padiet Wang went 5-for-7 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. He finished the game with 18 points, four steals and five caroms.
Ed Bourke and
Parker Gaddis each chipped in 10 points and three dimes.
Behind Becker's game high eight rebounds, the Mountain Lions outrebounded UNK, 33-29.
UCCS outscored the Lopers on fast-break points, 21-12, and netted 22 points from the Lopers 13 turnovers.
The Mountain Lions shot a solid 52.2 percent from the floor (24-46) and 46.2 percent from long range (6-of-13).
UCCS will play host to Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
