UCCS started their 2019-2020 season at home and finished with a 1-1 record. The weekend started with a tough loss to No. 12 West Texas A&M 50-75. The Mountain Lions turned it around the following night and dominated the University of Texas-Permian Basin, 86-78. Chelsea Pearson had an amazing game Saturday night racking up 35 points.
THE SERIES

The Mountain Lions had their last match-up against LCU in November 2014 where they won in an impressive game 93-90. This win ended a four-game losing streak for UCCS in the series.

UCCS will be playing St. Mary's University for the first time on Saturday.
SCOUTING REPORT

LCU is ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Division II poll. Maddie Christey, a 6-foot-2 forward, and Allie Schulte, a 5-foot-10 guard, are dominant offensive players for the Roadrunners each averaging 15-16 points a game.

This is St. Mary's first year in the Lone Star Conference. Freshman Bella Hughes made a statement in their exhibition against University of Texas at El Paso scoring 14 points with nine of them coming from beyond the arc.
HOT TAKES

Chelsea Pearson had a rock star weekend achieving a career and game high of 35 points against Texas-Permian Basin. This weekend also made her No. 5 in the conference for scoring, averaging 17.5 points a game. She's also No. 5 for field goal percentage and No. 6 for three-point percentage (55 percent, 50 percent).

Freshman Ellie Moore showed her stance as a strong defensive player and ranks No. 7 in the RMAC for blocks with one and a half blocks a game.

Makenna Baker, another newcomer, displayed her athleticism all weekend finishing with 22 points, three assists, and six steals. Her steals this weekend make her No. 6 in the region.

Madi Gaibler also had a strong weekend offensively and finished at No. 8 for assists (4 per game).
UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH LYNN PLETT

Lynn Plett returns in 2019-20 for his fourth year on the sideline for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The 2018-19 season finished with a six-way fourth place finish in the RMAC regular season standings with a 12-10 conference record and a 13-15 overall mark. Off the court, the Mountain Lions received their first RMAC Brechler Award, besting all 16 teams in the conference with a 3.660 grade point average.

Plett spent four seasons at Northern Kentucky, where the Norse qualified for the Women's Basketball Invitational postseason tournament each season during the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. He served on the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee from 2007 through 2011.

Plett was the head coach at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, from 2002 through 2007, and his teams qualified for three NCAA Division II Tournaments in his career. Plett entered Division II coaching at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, in 1994, where he also doubled as athletic director. He won the GLVC championship and was named GLVC Coach of the Year in his first season and coached an All-American, two-time conference player of the year and a two-time NCAA Division II scoring leader.
