INDIANAPOLIS – For the second straight year, both University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country programs have received at-large bids to compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Championship meet, announced by the NCAA this afternoon.
The 2019 NCAA Championship races will be held Nov. 23 in Sacramento, Calif., at Arcade Creek Cross Country Course (at Haggin Oaks). California State University, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission will serve as hosts. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. (MT), followed by the men's race at 12:15 p.m. (MT).
UCCS is one of 19 teams to have both men's and women's teams qualify for this year's national championship race, and one of four teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (Adams State University, Colorado School of Mines and Western State Colorado University).
The UCCS women's program is making their 10th appearance at the NCAA championship meet, including their fourth straight trip and seventh in the last eight years. UCCS also qualified in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2006, 2004 and 2000. The Mountain Lions, ranked No. 12 in the latest USTFCCCA national poll, are coming off a fourth-place finish at Saturday's NCAA South Central Regional race in Canyon, Texas
The Mountain Lions men's program, currently ranked No. 17 in Division II, is making their seventh appearance in program history, and their second consecutive appearance. UCCS finished fourth out of 28 teams at Saturday NCAA South Central Regional race. This marks the Mountain Lions sixth national appearance in the last 11 years (2019, 2018, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2008); UCCS first qualified in 2004.
In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this past weekend.
Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. The list of advancing teams and individuals is outlined below.
