THIS WEEK
After playing their last six games at home, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend.  The Mountain Lions will travel to Fort Lewis College on Friday, and Adams State University on Saturday.  Both games are set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONS
After coming off a home split this past weekend, the Mountain Lions are tied for fifth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 4-3 record (5-8 overall).  Friday's win over Dixie State University marked the first time this season UCCS won back-to-back games (defeated St. Edward's University on Dec. 30, 2018).

Jae Ferrin leads the Mountain Lions offense with 8.5 points per game.  Ferrin is the only Mountain Lion to have started all 13 games this season.  She is also leading the team in rebounds, averaging 5.5 caroms per game.

Abby Feickert, who has started 12 of 13 games, is second on the team in scoring with 8.2 points per game.  Feickert has also sank a team high 15 three-point field goals and is near perfect from the free throw line, hitting 23-of-25 attempts.

Anna Davern has come off the bench every game and leads the team in blocked shots (11).  She has also added five steals, 18 assists, 41 rebounds and is averaging 5.9 points per game.

Kelly O'Flannigan, who has started 12-of-13 games and leads the team in minutes played (26.5 minutes per game), is shooting at a 50.8 percent clip (32-of-63), including 10-of-25 from long range (40 percent).  She is netting 6.2 points per game while adding a total of 47 rebounds, a team high 30 assists and two steals.

As a team, the Mountain Lions are netting 58.1 points per game and outrebounding their opponents by more than three rebounds per game (+3.4).

UCCS is ranked in the top half in the league in several categories, including free throw percentage (70.5 percent), field goal percentage defense (38.7 percent), blocked shots (2.6), and rebounding margin (+3.1).

LAST TIME OUT
The Mountain Lions started the New Year at home, playing host to Dixie State University (W, 59-54) and Westminster College (L, 75-60).

The Mountain Lions trailed DSU for more than 20 minutes, but a second half surge led to UCCS topping the Trailblazers, 59-54. UCCS came to hold onto to their lead in the fourth quarter as they made 9-of-14 free throws to seal the win.

Maddie Golla scored a game high 18 points with O'Flannigan right behind her with 13 points. Four different Mountain Lions recorded six rebounds in the game.

On Saturday against the Griffins, Feickert and Madi Gaibler led the team with 12 points each. Gaibler came off the bench to play 29 minutes and provide a key defensive match-up for the Mountain Lions as the UCCS bench contributed 27 points in the game. Tatum Tellin also played a major supporting role recording 22 minutes and eight points for UCCS.

Out-rebounded 18-13 in the second half, UCCS couldn't recover and close the deficit as the Griffins closed out the game finishing nearly perfect from the line (19-of-21).

SCOUTING FORT LEWIS COLLEGE
Fort Lewis College is tied for 11th place in the league standings with a 2-5 RMAC record (6-7 overall).  The Skyhawks are 4-1 at home but enter the weekend losing three of their last four games.

FLC has scored the fourth most points in the conference this season, netting 71.2 points per game and allowing only 59.2 points per game, good for the second-best scoring margin in the RMAC (+12.1).  They lead the league in assists (15.5 per game) and own the best turnover margin (+6.8), and the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).

Alyssa Yocky leads FLC, scoring 12.3 points per game and a 52.2 percent rate.  She ranks third in the league in rebounds (8.2), fifth in steals (1.8), and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9).

HEAD COACH LYNN PLETT
After the first RMAC championship in program history in his first season in 2016-17, Lynn Plett returns for his third year on the sideline for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He guided the Mountain Lions to the RMAC Tournament Championship in 2017 and the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

In the 2017-18 season, Plett coached All-RMAC honorable mention Shanah Leaf as well as five Mountain Lions who received honors on the RMAC All-Academic team. Last season proved to be a rebuilding year for the Mountain Lions as they lost three starting seniors while adding six new players to the roster. UCCS finished the season with an overall 10-17 record with a 10-12 conference record, which placed the Mountain Lions 10th in the RMAC conference.

Plett coached two All-RMAC First Team student-athletes for the 2016-17 season in Brittany Hernandez and Tori Fisher. The Mountain Lions tied for second in the RMAC standings and won the tournament with the best defensive performance in championship game history in a 53-37 victory against Regis. UCCS advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its furthest postseason run since 2015.

Plett spent four seasons at Northern Kentucky, where the Norse qualified for the Women's Basketball Invitational postseason tournament each season during the transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. Prior to NKU, he spent five seasons as the head coach at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo. Plett served as the head coach at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. from 2002 through 2007.  Plett entered Division II coaching at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., in 1994, where he also doubled as the athletic director.
