GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – May 3, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball season came to an end on Thursday on the first day of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Mountain Lions, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, lost the opening game of the tournament to No. 3 seed Regis University, 10-9, and the night cap game to No. 7 seed Adams state University, 9-6
Facing the No. 3 seed in the first game of the tournament, the Mountain Lions jumped to a 5-1 lead after one inning of work.
Whitney Weber reach first base on a single and then stole her first of three bases in the game.
Lexi Belligan drove in Weber from second base on a single to the pitcher.
Alex Cook and
Rayle Glover drew walks to load the bases. With two outs, Lexi Anderson hit a grand slam, her second home run of the season, to boost UCCS' lead to 5-0.
The Mountain Lions added four more runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-3 lead. A repeat of the first inning, Weber hit a single and then stole second base, followed by Belligan's single to bring in Weber.
Taylor Reidhead hit a double down the left field, advancing
Amanda Nobles, who was pinch running for Belligan, to third base. Nobles added the Mountain Lions seventh run of the game from Glover's single to center field.
Kylie Barnard drove in Glover and Reidhead off a double down the right field line.
The Mountain Lions six-run lead was cut down to three runs, 9-6, after the Rangers scored three runs in the fifth inning off of two home runs. RU took their first lead of the game in the sixth lead with four runs to advance to tomorrow's round.
UCCS finished with 11 hits against the Rangers. Weber went 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Belligan notched two hits, one run scored and two runs batted in. Anderson posted four RBIs off one hit and made seven putouts defensively.
Reidhead went the distance in the circle, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and striking out seven batters.
Against Adams State University, Belligan hit a sac fly to center field to score Weber from second base to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
ASU tied the game in the top of the second with a single home run.
UCCS took their second lead of the game in the second inning on Glover's home run to centerfield.
The Mountain Lions added a run in the third inning for a 3-1 lead when Reidhead singled to drive in
Melissa Martinek from second base.
The Grizzlies added two runs in the fifth inning, but UCCS responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs for a 6-3 lead. Weber started the inning off with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch.
Taylor White batted in Glover and Cook from a double to right center to close out the Mountain Lions scoring.
ASU added one run in the sixth inning and five runs on five hits in the seventh inning for the win.
The Mountain Lions posted 10 hits against the Grizzlies. Weber, Cook and Glover accounted for two hits each.
Cami Duffey pitched the first four innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Reidhead closed the game in the circle, surrendering two earned runs on six hits.
