GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – In a pitching duel, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team fell on the road to No. 8 Colorado Mesa, 2-0, Friday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions held the nationally ranked Mavericks to just six hits as
Colin Cicere took the loss after fanning seven batters.
The lone breakthrough for Colorado Mesa came in the fifth inning when Tyler Sandoval doubled down the right field line to bring in Zach McLeod and Caleb Farmer.
UCCS had four hits against Kyle Leahy who recorded 17 strikeouts. The junior went the distance, pitching all nine innings to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The loss puts the Mountain Lions at 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the RMAC. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday with games at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
