LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs saw their losing streak snapped on Sunday as they handed Colorado Christian their first loss in RMAC action, winning the third game of the series, 8-3.
In the game, the Mountain Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning as
Lexi Belligan drove in two runs after reaching on a fielder's choice.
Taylor Reidhead then singled down the left line to drive in Belligan.
UCCS added four more runs in the fifth, which was highlighted by a
Whitney Weber triple that
Melissa Martinek,
Saleen Quinonez, and
Kylie Barnard.
Reidhead earned the win as she struck out five batters while allowing just three runs off four hits.
The second game of the day saw UCCS take the Cougars to the limit as they took the game into the 10
th inning.
The Mountain Lions led 4-3 through three innings, but Colorado Christian tied the game in the fifth when Stephanie Day singled to drive in Kendall Yasui.
Then the Cougars finally found the game winner with a walk-off single that brought in Day.
The Mountain Lions, who slipped to 9-23 overall and 4-15 in the RMAC, continue their road swing with a series at CSU-Pueblo this Friday and Saturday.
