However, the Cowboys responded in the seventh with three runs before adding three more in the eighth to take the win.
Joe Slocum took his first loss after pitching seven innings, striking out seven batters.
UCCS (5-6) will face New Mexico Highlands again tomorrow at 12 p.m.
