COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Coming off of a tough home loss on Saturday, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team bounced back Sunday afternoon to blow out Colorado Christian University 74-53 at the Gallogly Events Center.
UCCS took care of the ball against the Cougars as they shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the field with
Emily Seifert and
Abby Feickert leading the way for the Mountain Lions, registering 13 and 21 points respectively. The Mountain Lion bench came out to play a major supporting role in the home win with the UCCS bench scoring 25 points in the game as
Elly Johnson made a big block that swung the momentum in UCCS' favor at the tail end of the first quarter.
CCU led most of the first half, but down 18-22 UCCS went on a 17-0 run mid-way in the second quarter and into the third quarter to grab the lead form the Cougars. The Mountain Lions came to lead as much as 24 points in the fourth quarter with
Caley Barnard spreading out the ball and creating opportunities for UCCS as she dished out five assists in the game.
UCCS edged out the Cougars 43-37 in rebounds with
Jae Ferrin having a game high eight rebounds and six assists.
The Mountain Lions will now have a short break as they come back to host the Holiday Classic on Saturday, Dec. 29 and Sunday, Dec. 30 with UCCS playing their first game on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gallogly Events Center.
