Men's Soccer Falls to No. 5 CSM in RMAC Semifinals

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men' soccer team close out an excellent 2018 season as they lost to No. 5 Colorado School of Mines in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Semifinals at a final score of 3-1 Friday afternoon at Stermole Stadium.

The Orediggers are the top seed in the RMAC Tournament after winning the regular season title.  UCCS entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed.

UCCS' Alex VonHolle and Jack Mills recorded three shots as Mario Mandel came off the bench to record three shots as well. Jack Mills came to net the one goal for UCCS.

Colorado School of Mines came out and showed why they are ranked fifth in the nation as John Haist scored two goals for the Orediggers in the 14th and in the 15th minute to jump out to a 2-0 lead over UCCS.

The Mountain Lions were held scoreless in the first half as the Orediggers defense held UCCS to 12 shots in the match. Colorado School of Mines increased their lead in the 75th minute as Tristan Semelsberger found the back of the net. Mills and Jake Demerath came to make a final push in the 79th minute as Demerath connected with Mills to head one in and cut the lead 3-1.

UCCS goalkeeper Scott Jensen had a busy day facing 25 shots and recording eight saves in the match.

The Orediggers came to hold the advantage in shots (25-12), shots on goal (11-5), and corner kicks (11-8).

Junior Tankred Steinbach was honored before the match as he was awarded the RMAC Soccer Summit Award.

The Mountain Lions finished the season 12-7-1 with a 10-4-0 RMAC record, marking their best record since 2016.
