COLORADO SPRINGS – Playing their second exhibition game this week, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team flew past the Eagles of Northern New Mexico College Saturday night in an exhibition game in Gallogly Events Center, 66-39.
UCCS entered halftime holding a 38-17 lead. Despite being outscored in the third quarter, 16-5, the Mountain Lions came back in the final stanza to shut down NNMC, 23-6.
Jae Ferrin led the Mountain Lions with 17 points on 7-of-12 field goal attempts.
Abby Feickert pulled down a game high 13 rebounds while dishing out four assists to go with her seven points and three steals.
Chelsea Person was one-point shy of double digit scoring.
Emily Seifert and
Maddie Golla each came off the bench to net seven points.
The Mountain Lions bench outscored NNMU, 30-0, and outscored the Eagles in the paint (30-16) and on second chance points (20-2). UCCS held an 18-rebound advantage (52-34), including a 19-10 edge on the offensive end of the court.
The Mountain Lions, who led the Eagles the entire game, finished shooting 36.4 percent from the floor (24-66) and a solid 85.7 percent from the line (12-14).
NNMC (1-8) was led by Kayla Salazar's game high 20 points.
UCCS will play two road games next week when they travel to Fort Hays State University on Saturday, Nov. 24, and at University of Nebraska at Kearney on Nov. 25.
