Mountain Lions Edged by Angelo State, 84-74

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – One day after starting their season with a road win, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team dropped an 84-74 decision to Angelo State University in a neutral site game Saturday afternoon in Stephenville, Texas.
 
UCCS (1-1) jumped to a 6-0 lead to start the game but ASU went on an 11-5 run to take the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
Trailing 48-35 at halftime, Angelo State increased their lead to 19 points in the second half.  UCCS fought back and outscored ASU, 27-12.  Padiet Wang's field goal with 1:15 left in regulation cut ASU's lead down to four, 74-70.  Angelo State closed the game scoring eight of their final 10 points from the charity stripe to hand UCCS the 10-point setback.
 
Elijah Ross paced the offense with 18 points and three assists.  DaRaun Clark came off the bench to net 16 points.  Brandon Malone added 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Dalton Walker chipped in 10 points, three dimes and seven rebounds.
 
Wang led UCCS on the boards, grabbing nine to go with his six points, three assists and two steals.
 
The Mountain Lions shot 47.5 percent from the floor (29-61) and hit 10-of-18 free throws.  UCCS was edged in rebounding, 41-38, but scored 13 second chance points from 13 offensive rebounds.
 
Josh Boutte led ASU with 19 points and 16 rebounds.  UCCS held Angelo State to three three-point field goals, but ASU attempted 16 more free throws than the Mountain Lions, making 25-of-34.
 
The Mountain Lions will travel to the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Nov. 17, and at Fort Hays State University on Nov. 18.
