PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs recorded nine team blocks and held Colorado State-Pueblo to a .020 hitting percentage to extend its streak of 3-0 victories to three matches tonight at Massari Arena. The Mountain Lions (7-6, 4-1 RMAC) won in 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 sets against the ThunderWolves (2-11, 1-4 RMAC) for the seventh win in the last eight matches.
UCCS opened the match with an 8-1 run and put together another seven-point run midway through the set en route to a 25-16 victory in the first period. CSU-Pueblo scored five straight points for an early 5-1 lead in the second set, but the Mountain Lions put together a four-point run to tie the set at 12-12 and closed with a 7-2 rally for a 25-21 win in the second set.
The ThunderWolves took another 5-1 lead in the third set, but a five-point swing for UCCS tied the match at 7-7. The Mountain Lions put together another five-point rally for a 17-14 lead and CSU-Pueblo closed the lead to a one-point contest at 20-19 and 21-20, but UCCS scored the final four points in the first sweep in Massari Arena since 2008.
Taylor Hamilton led the offense with 11 kills and six blocks while
Alyssa Brinton finished with 10 kills.
Aly Morgan led the back line with 13 digs.
Raelynn Edge made 35 assists and increased her season total to 512 tonight. She needs four assists to tie for fifth in UCCS freshman season records and 75 to tie the record set by Jessica Stewart in 2005. Edge is averaging 10.89 assists per set this season and is on pace for fifth overall in program history.
The Mountain Lions will travel to New Mexico Highlands tomorrow for a 6 p.m., contest in Las Vegas, N.M.
