COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Zach Hall hit his first grand slam of the season and tied the game in the bottom of the second inning for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, but Air Force used four innings with five or more runs for a 24-10 decision against the Mountain Lions at Security Service Field.
Air Force (23-20) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning with three extra-base hits, and UCCS (22-25) manufactured a run in the bottom half of the inning after
Efrain Medina drew a two-out walk and later scored on a single by
Colin Ludwig. Hall hit the grand slam with his 11th home run of the season as the Mountain Lions tied the game at 5-5.
The Falcons scored seven runs in the third and fifth innings and opened at 19-7 lead through the middle of the fifth. The Mountain Lions scored two in the bottom of the fifth with
Bryan Chapin off a
Matthew McDermott single, and
Jamie Crabtree on a sacrifice fly by
Zach Hall.
Hall finished with a season-high six RBIs with four from the grand slam, one in the third inning and one in the sixth inning. McDermott went three-for-five with two RBIs, and Chapin finished two-for-four with two runs.
UCCS will be off before the RMAC Tournament starts May 10 at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colo. The Mountain Lions will learn its seeding after their bye week this weekend and the completion of the regular season for the other teams.
