DENVER –
John Mallon went two-for-four in his fourth multi-hit game in the last week as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs dropped a 6-2 game at MSU Denver at the Regency Athletic Complex.
Emilio Martinez made his second start of the season and struck out four batters in three innings for the Mountain Lions (17-18, 12-12 RMAC).
The Roadrunners (16-17, 12-11 RMAC) took an early lead with a three-run home run in the first inning and UCCS scored its first run with
Scott Martinez on a sacrifice fly from
Zach Hall in the third inning. MSU Denver responded with two runs in the bottom of the third for a 5-1 advantage against the Mountain Lions.
UCCS held MSU Denver scoreless in the fourth after the Roadrunners loaded the bases and the Mountain Lions drew three straight walks to lead off the fifth, but a strike out and double play ended the scoring opportunity. MSU Denver scored one run in the sixth inning for a 6-1 lead, and UCCS added one run in the eighth as
Bryan Chapin's double scored
Colin Ludwig. The Mountain Lions went down in order in the top of the ninth in the 6-2 decision against the Roadrunners.
UCCS will return home for a four-game series with New Mexico Highlands April 13-15 at Spurgeon Field. The Mountain Lions and Cowboys will begin with a single nine-inning game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
