COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team concluded their inaugural season with a 22-2 setback at home to Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
The Mountain Lions got on the board eight minutes into the game when
Brianna Martinez netted her 22
nd goal of the season, cutting Colorado Mesa's lead to just two goals early on. However, the Mavericks reeled off 13 straight goals to make it a commanding 16-1 lead mid way through second half.
Madison Ellis got one back for UCCS at the 17:21 mark in the second half, which was her 14
th goal of the campaign, rounding out the scoring for the Mountain Lions.
Vanessa Nelson led UCCS with three draw controls while posting a team-high four shots in the setback.
In goal,
Elle Scott-Williams made eight saves for the Mountain Lions while also notching two ground balls and causing one turnover.
For the visiting Mavericks, Lydia Furrow led the game with five goals while adding an assist.
The result puts UCCS at 4-10 overall to end the season.
