DENVER – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team opened their series at MSU Denver with a pair of setbacks on Saturday, falling to the Roadrunners 8-2 in game one and 3-2 in game two.
The Mountain Lions found themselves playing from behind in the first game after MSU Denver put up four runs in the second inning.
UCCS managed to put to runs on the board in the top of the fourth when
Amanda Nobles was brought home off of a
Meghan Waidler double into left field.
Nikki Hoffman was then able to come home on a
Lexi Belligan ground out.
Pitchers
Stephanie Chitkowski and
Christina Patton each tallied a pair of strikeouts as Chitkowski took the loss after pitching 3.2 innings.
In the second game of the day, UCCS gave up the lead after scoring runs in the first and third innings. In the first,
Whitney Weber scored off a sacrifice fly by
Amanda Nobles. The second run was scored by
Taylor White, who was brought home on a hit by
Amanda Nobles.
However, the homestanding Roadrunners scored runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to earn the come-from-behind win.
The two losses puts UCCS at 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC. The two team will wrap-up the series Sunday with games slated for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
