Mountain Lions Secure Home Quarterfinal Game with 28 Points from Fisher

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior forward Tori Fisher recorded her second straight 20-point game and senior guard Jen Vigil hit the 20-point mark for the third time this season as the Mountain Lions (20-8, 17-5 RMAC) finished the regular season with a 91-78 victory at Colorado Christian (11-16, 9-13 RMAC). The win secured a home game on Tuesday night as one of the quarterfinal sites for the 2017 RMAC Tournament.

The Mountain Lions used an 18-6 run during a seven-minute span midway through the first quarter and the start of the second quarter to double-up the Cougars 20-10. Another 10-4 run in the second quarter expanded the lead to 15 points for UCCS at 33-18 with 4:33 remaining, but Colorado Christian scored the next six points to make it a six-point game with 3:54 left in the period. The Mountain Lions scored seven of the next eight points to retake a 14-point lead, but the Cougars finished the quarter with four of the final five to cut the UCCS lead down to 40-29 at halftime.

UCCS started the second half on an 11-2 run and built a 51-31 lead with 5:58 to play in the third quarter. The Mountain Lions led by double-digits until Colorado Colorado pulled within nine points after an 11-1 run with 1:05 left in the fourth quarter. UCCS went seven-of-eight at the free throw line to close out the game in a 91-78 victory.

Fisher finished 28 points, one point off of her career-high 29 set last night against Colorado Mines. She went 12-of-17 from the field and led the team with nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Vigil made six of her 10 three-point attempts and went seven-of-11 from the field overall for 20 points in her best scoring performance of the conference season.

Brittany Hernandez added 15 points and eight rebounds. She's finished with at least 15 points in six of the last seven games since Feb. 3.

UCCS earned its third straight 20-win season and the fourth overall in program history in tonight's win. The Mountain Lions tied for second in the RMAC standings after Colorado Mesa's win tonight against Colorado State-Pueblo, but UCCS will be the No. 3 seed because of an 80-63 loss to the Mavericks on Jan. 21.

The Mountain Lions will host sixth-seeded MSU Denver at 7 p.m., on Tuesday at the Gallogly Events Center. MSU Denver won both games in the regular season against UCCS in 56-54 and 82-66 results.
