LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team earned a 2-1 double overtime win Sunday afternoon on the road at Colorado Christian.
The Cougars got on the board first when Zion Lander scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway shot in the 11
th minute of play.
UCCS scored the equalizer in the 54
th minute when
Clayton Smith netted his first of the year off a
Blake Barnes corner kick.
The game then went into overtime where
Jake McAllister scored his team-high sixth goal of the season on a shot from inside the box.
UCCS kept the Cougars defense busy as they finished the game outshooting Colorado Christian 23 to 12. The Mountain Lions also led with nine shots on goal to Colorado Christian's three shots on goal.
David Meyer made two saves to pick up the win in goal as
Alex VonHolle led the team with five shots, placing two on frame.
With the win, the Mountain Lions have now won three of their last four games, putting them at 5-7-2 overall and 5-3-2 in conference play.
The team is back in action this coming Wednesday when they host CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
