UCCS Remains Undefeated in RMAC Play in 73-58 Win at Chadron

CHADRON, Neb. – An 18-2 run that started in the second quarter and ran through the beginning of the third quarter pushed the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a 73-58 victory against Chadron State at the Chicoine Center. Jen Vigil and Anna Schwecke led the Mountain Lions (6-3, 3-0 RMAC) with 12 points each against the Eagles (1-5, 1-2 RMAC).

UCCS is one of three undefeated teams in conference play this season after losses tonight by MSU Denver and Colorado Mines. CSU-Pueblo was off after a game on Tuesday night and Colorado Mesa pulled off a win against Fort Lewis to join the Mountain Lions with a 3-0 conference record.

The Mountain Lions opened the game with a 7-2 lead and never trailed tonight. A pair of free throws from Tori Fisher late in the second quarter marked the start of 10 straight points before the Eagles made a jumper with 19 seconds left in the quarter. UCCS scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take a 42-19 advantage with 5:06 to play in the period.

UCCS led by as many as 31 points with 6:33 to play in the game. Head Coach Lynn Plett rested the starters for most of the fourth quarter and Chadron State pulled as close as 13 points at 71-58 with 1:28 to play. The Mountain Lions held the Eagles at bay to claim the 15-point win and the defense held an opponent to 60 points or less for the second time in the three-game conference season.

Vigil went four-of-nine from the three-point range for her 12 points and Schwecke went six-of-seven from the field for her 12 points off the bench. Kristen Vigil scored 11 points to round out the top offensive performances. Brittany Hernandez led UCCS with seven rebounds, and made two blocked shots along with Fisher.

The Mountain Lions will travel back to the Front Range tonight for tomorrow's 5 p.m., game against Regis. The Rangers (7-1, 2-1 RMAC) defeated MSU Denver 67-62 earlier tonight.
