Mountain Lions Close Out Home-Opening Week with Hardrockers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will play its third home game in a six-day stretch tonight when the Mountain Lions (2-4, 1-0 RMAC) welcome South Dakota Mines (4-3, 0-1 RMAC) to the Gallogly Events Center. The game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

UCCS won its second straight game by a double-digit margin last night in a 78-57 victory against Black Hills State to open the season. It was the largest margin of victory for the Mountain Lions this season, and it came along with the largest rebounding margin of the year. UCCS held a 44-29 advantage against the Yellow Jackets and lead the RMAC with 42.8 rebounds per game. The Mountain Lions are outrebounding opponents by an average of six rebounds per game for the second-best margin in the RMAC.

The Hardrockers have the second-best rebounding defense in the conference in holding opponents to 28.6 per game, and the fourth-best scoring defense in 71.4 points per game. South Dakota Mines have held all but one of their opponents to 75 points or less this season, but is only one point better than its opponents in the seven games this season.

UCCS and South Dakota Mines split the series last season, with both teams winning on their opponent's floor. The Mountain Lions scored 70 points in both games, and won the first game with the help of an early 16-3 run to hold off two extended runs by the Hardrockers at the end of the game. South Dakota Mines went 24-of-28 at the free throw line in the second game in a 13-point win in Colorado Springs.

Charlie Botnick will provide the play-by-play on the UCCS Athletic Network with color analyst Mac Buckley. The game will be free on the UCCS Men's Basketball Facebook page, on the department's Stretch Internet portal, and locally in Colorado Springs on xfinity channel 20, Prism channel 8001 and Falcon Broadband channel 77.
