MacDonald Records First Collegiate Double-Double at Regis

DENVER, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore forward Ian MacDonald led the Mountain Lions with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double as UCCS (3-6, 2-2 RMAC) dropped an 82-74 game to Regis (7-3, 1-3 RMAC) at the Regis Field House. TreShawn Wilford and Dalton Walker each added 12 points, and Blend Avdili matched MacDonald's 10 rebounds.

The Rangers took a 10-point lead in the first four minutes at 14-4 and maintained the margin at 18-8 at the 14:58 mark. Walker made a pair of three-pointers within a minute span, and Avdili added a free throw in between, as UCCS closed the lead down to 18-15 with 12:52 to play in the half. An 11-0 Mountain Lion run provided the first lead of the game for UCCS at 28-23 with 7:13 remaining, but Regis retook the lead and held a five-point, 44-39, advantage at halftime after a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Mountain Lions scored on four of their first five possessions of the second half but couldn't take the lead as Regis scored on four of its first six. UCCS cut the Ranger advantage down to a point four times in the first four minutes of the period until the Rangers scored eight straight points in a span of 71 seconds. A three-pointer from Brandon Malone with 6:17 to play made it a one-point game again at 71-70, but Regis closed out the game on an 11-4 run to claim the 82-74 game.

MacDonald grabbed eight of his 10 rebounds in the second half and doubled his previous season-best. Avdili finished with a career-high in rebounds tonight as UCCS out-rebounded Regis 45-36.

Walker scored all of his points from the three-point line and matched the most three-pointers by a Mountain Lion this season. Wilford went six-of-nine from the field and finished with a field goal percentage of 50 percent or better for the third time this month.

UCCS will close out the fall semester at home with a pair of games after finals. The Mountain Lions host Colorado Christian (6-4, 3-1 RMAC) on Friday and Colorado Mines (7-3, 2-2 RMAC) on Saturday in 7:30 p.m., games at the Gallogly Events Center.
