TreShawn Wilford led the Mountain Lions with 14 points and shared the team lead with six rebounds as UCCS (0-3) fell 83-61 to Colorado State-Pueblo (1-2) in a nonconference matchup at Massari Arena.
UCCS led early at 5-2 as the Mountain Lion defense held CSU-Pueblo one-of-five from the field to start the game. The ThunderWolves put together a 7-1 run for a 12-6 lead with 13 minutes, 41 seconds, left in the first half before a three-pointer from
Dalton Walker cut the game back to a possession at 12-9.
CSU-Pueblo scored 13 of the next 16 points to build a 25-12 lead with 8:09 left in the half and led by double-digit points the rest of the night. The Mountain Lions rallied with a nine-point run to cut the ThunderWolves lead down to 12 points at 64-52 with 8:06 to play but couldn't pull closer in the 83-61 loss tonight.
Blend Avdili added 11 points off the bench and matched Wilford's six rebounds.
Tim Haas added eight points with a team-high three assists. The Mountain Lions outrebounded the ThunderWolves 39-35 and have outrebounded opponents in four of the last five games since the end of the 2015-16 season.
UCCS will remain on the road for the start of the season with a Wednesday afternoon game at Nebraska-Kearney. The Lopers (2-1) will host Colorado Mines on Sunday before the meeting with the Mountain Lions on Wednesday at 3 p.m., MST.
