COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team will travel to a familiar location tonight for a non-conference regional match at Colorado State-Pueblo at Massari Arena. Tonight's game will tip-off at 7 p.m., as part of the Al Kaly Shrine Classic.
UCCS and CSU-Pueblo both went 2-0 in their opening weekends. The Mountain Lions fell to Texas-Permian Basin and No. 10 Tarleton State by nine points or less in each game, while the ThunderWolves suffered setbacks to Rogers State and Arkansas-Fort Smith by five points or less.
Justin Smith is leading a balanced scoring effort for the Mountain Lions with 13.5 points per game and 60 percent shooting from the field.
Blend Avdilii is averaging 12.5 points per game and is 90 percent at the free throw line while
Elijah Ross is scoring 11.5 per game with 50 percent from the field.
The Mountain Lions have struggled in Pueblo the last two seasons, with an overtime loss last season and a four-point loss in the 2014-15 season. The ThunderWolves have gone 21-6 at home in the last two seasons and tonight's game will mark the home-opener for CSU-Pueblo this season.
CSU-Pueblo is shooting 53.2 percent from the field and scoring 82.5 points per game with four student-athletes averaging 12 points per game or more this season. Senior Nelson Kahler is leading the RMAC in the early season with two blocked shots per game, is third with 69.2 percent shooting from the field and is scoring 12 points per game.
