Mansfield Hat Trick Propels UCCS Past Western State

The senior scored all three goals in the 3-2 road win over the Mountaineers on Sunday

GUNNISON, Colo. – Senior forward Michaela Mansfield came up big for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team on Sunday, scoring a hat-trick as the Mountain Lions edged Western State, 3-2.

Mansfield, who now has a team-high six goals, scored in the 5th, 13th, and 65th minutes to lead UCCS to their second win of the season. Junior Bailee Jameson had a hand in two of the goals as she now 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists) through 10 games for the Mountain Lions.

Today's hat trick moved Mansfield onto the top of the UCCS career records for both points and goals. She now has 60 points and 25 goals in her four-year career with six games left in the regular season.

The Mountaineers made things interesting in the final minute as Katelyn Mardeusz scored in the 89th minute to make it a 3-2, but the visiting Mountain Lions held on in the final moments to preserve the victory.

Goalkeeper Grace Ramsden secured her first win of the year after recording seven saves, which ties the most saves for the junior this season.

As a team, the Mountain Lions placed 10 of their 16 shots on goal.

The result puts UCCS at 2-8 overall and 2-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as they return home this Friday, Oct. 14 to host Colorado Mines at 7:30 p.m.
