COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs closed out the first half with a 15-0 run and remained perfect in 2016 with a 77-50 victory tonight against Westminster. The Mountain Lions (9-5, 4-3 RMAC) shot 51 percent from the field for the best performance at home and the second-best of the season.
Brittany Hernandez led UCCS with 21 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals.
Jennah Knafelc added 10 points off the bench and
Jen Vigil finished with nine points and six rebounds.
UCCS never trailed in the game and earned the season sweep of the Griffins (5-7, 2-6 RMAC) with a 69-58 win in Salt Lake City last month. The Mountain Lions scored at least 20 points in the first and fourth quarters and held Westminster to seven points in the second quarter. UCCS finished with a 39-34 rebounding advantage and has outrebounded opponents in each game of 2016.
The Mountain Lions will remain at home on Saturday for a 5 p.m., game against Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks (8-4, 5-3 RMAC) won 59-45 at MSU Denver earlier tonight.
