Kendall Godley earned his first career double-double, but the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team (7-8, 4-4 RMAC) suffered a 97-93 setback to Westminster tonight in the Gallogly Events Center.
Alex Welsh scored a game-high 26 points.
Neither team held a double-digit lead tonight and the teams stayed within seven points of each other in the second half. Both squads exchanged the lead six teams and tied each other 10 times, with the final time by UCCS at 89-89 with 52 seconds to play on a three-pointer from Welsh to cap a seven-point rally. The Griffins went six-of-six at the free throw line in the final minute as part of a game that included 57 personal fouls and 70 free throw attempts between the two teams.
Dalton Patten scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half in his fourth 20-point game of the season. He connected on eight of his 10 shots from the field in his second 80 percent performance in the last three games. Welsh scored 26 points for the second straight night and shot better than 50 percent for the fourth time in the last five games. He finished one rebound away from his third straight double-double.
Godley finished with a career-high 10 rebounds and scored 20 points in his double-double performance. It was his first 20-point performance in a conference game in his career and he matched his career high with a team-high six assists.
UCCS will stay at home for a 7:30 p.m., game on Saturday against Colorado Mesa (9-5, 5-3 RMAC). The Mavericks defeated MSU Denver 72-60 earlier tonight.
