Mountain Lions Take Winning Streak to RMAC's Top Teams in Gallogly

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team will begin the weekend with a team on an 11-game win streak and follow with a team on a six-game win streak with a Friday matchup with Colorado Mines and a Saturday game against Colorado Christian. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m., at the Gallogly Events Center.

The Mountain Lions have won their last four games by an average of 17.3 points per game and out-rebounding opponents by 11.8 rebounds per game. UCCS has held its last three opponents to less than 60 points for the best scoring defense in a three-game stretch since a four-game stretch from Feb. 1-15, 2013.

Brittany Hernandez has been named the RMAC Player of the Week in each of the last two weeks, once for the offensive and defensive sides. She is leading the conference and No. 11 in the nation with 21.4 points per game, and is second in the RMAC in both steals and rebounds. Teammate Jen Vigil leads the conference and is No. 18 in the nation with 2.87 steals per game, and the Mountain Lions are in the top 25 nationally with 11.0 steals per game.

road team has won last seven games between the Mountain Lions and Orediggers since February 2011 and UCCS leads the overall series 18-14. Saturday's meeting between UCCS and Colorado Christian will be the fourth in the last 12 months as the teams also met in the RMAC Tournament Semifinals and in the second round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Colorado Mines is a perfect 9-0 in conference play, and has excelled in pulling out the win in close games this season. The Orediggers have won two games in overtime, three games by one point, two games by two points and one game by three points. Colorado Mines leads the RMAC with 45.7 rebounds per game and is out-rebounding opponents by an average of 11.1 per game. Courtney Martin is leading the Orediggers with seven rebounds and 11.8 points per game.

Friday's game will be broadcast regionally on Comcast Entertainment Television. Brian Roth and Marty Cesario will provide the commentary for xfinity subscribers on channel 900 on the Front Range.

Colorado Christian has won its last six games, and the last four games have been with an interim coached named during the holiday break.  The Cougars have the best field goal percentage (42.0) and best field goal defense (33.2), and lead the RMAC with 11.6 steals per game, just ahead of the Mountain Lions. Kate Louthan is scoring 13.1 points per game and Ali Meyer leads the conference with 9.6 rebounds per game.
