UCCS Splits with Black Hills State to End Series

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Kylie Barnard hit a pair of doubles in the second game and Christina Patton earned her first victory of the season as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs closed out the season with 3-2 win at Black Hills State. The Mountain Lions (18-27 / 16-22 RMAC) lost the first game of the day 11-3 in five innings.

Tressa Radach hit her fourth home run of the season to start the day and finish a three-run first inning for the Mountain Lions in game one. The Yellow Jackets responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning and then took an 8-3 lead with five runs in the second inning. UCCS put two runners into scoring position with one out in the top of the third, but the Mountain Lions couldn't put a run across home plate. Black Hills State expanded the lead with a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth for the run-rule decision.

The teams combined for five hits through the first four innings of the final game for a scoreless tie. Rayle Glover scored the first run of the game on a single from Nikki Hoffman in the fifth inning and the Yellow Jackets responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Barnard reached base in the top of the sixth inning, and Jordyn Cusimano pinch ran and scored the tying run later in the inning. Paige Duncan scored the winning run off a single from Glover and the Mountain Lions allowed only one base runner between the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 3-2 victory.

Whitney Weber, Emily Jennings, Hoffman, Radach and Barnard each finished the day with multiple hits. Patton struck out three batters and gave up only one earned run in the second game win. Hayley Miller struck out six batters in a relief appearance in the first game while Korey Kulpins was credited with the loss.

Jennings ended her career with 192 hits, 32 home runs and a .371 batting average. Kulpins finished with 154 career strikeouts in 75 appearances and 19 complete games. The pair were a part of two teams to advance to the RMAC tournament and won 93 games in the past four seasons.
