CANYON, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs struggled against the top field goal shooting team in Division II and finished the most successful season in program history in a 96-69 loss to West Texas A&M in the Sweet 16 round of the 2015 NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Mountain Lions finish the season with a 26-7 record in their first NCAA tournament appearance.
West Texas A&M converted on 12 consecutive field goal attempts to build a 38-25 lead against UCCS with 3:20 to play in the first half.
Brittany Hernandez went four-of-six from the field to lead the Mountain Lions with 11 points at halftime as UCCS trailed 45-31 at the break.
Abby Kirchoff scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half, but the Mountain Lions couldn't cut into the Lady Buff lead as West Texas led by at least 20 points for the final 10 minutes of the game.
Hernandez led UCCS with 15 points, seven rebounds and matched her season-high with five assists. She finished the season with a program-record 283 rebounds. Kirchoff added 13 points and three rebounds, and finished her career with UCCS records in career (1,951), season (633) and game (39) scoring. Both Mountain Lions were named to the All-South Central Region Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.
Tori Fisher went six-of-nine from the field for 13 points.
UCCS finished the season with program records in total wins, points and rebounds in the first NCAA postseason appearance in program history. Seniors
