GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team shot better than 50 percent from the field and never trailed to win 82-62 at Colorado Mesa tonight in Brownson Arena. It was the first win for the Mountain Lions (4-5, 1-1 RMAC) at Colorado Mesa (4-4, 0-2 RMAC) since Feb. 9, 2001.
Dalton Patten scored a career-high 28 points with 11-of-14 shooting from the field, including a three-of-three performance from beyond the arc.
Blend Avdili added another 14 points in his first collegiate start and
Tim Haas scored nine points with three 3-pointers.
Patten scored on the first two possessions for the Mountain Lions and pushed the lead to 9-5 with a three-pointer with 16 minutes, 49 seconds left in the half. UCCS shot 56 percent from the three-point line and closed out the half with three straight three-pointers for a 49-34 halftime advantage.
UCCS led by at least 13 points for the entire second half and led by as many as 22 points at 82-60 with 3:09 to play. All but one of the Mountain Lions who played scored points tonight.
The Mountain Lions held a 37-27 rebounding advantage and
Alex Welsh led the team with six rebounds. He added another three blocked shots.
Kendall Godley made a game-high six assists.
UCCS will finish the weekend with the first trip to Salt Lake City since 2011 in a game at Westminster. The Griffins (6-0, 2-0 RMAC) defeated MSU Denver 70-67 tonight.
