UCCS Ties Rebounding Record in Sixth 100-Point Game

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team tied the program record with 60 rebounds and turned in the sixth 100-point game in program history in a 100-65 win against Johnson & Wales tonight in the Gallogly Events Center. Jen Vigil led the Mountain Lions (3-2) with a career-high 21 points off of five three-pointers.

UCCS finished with 104 field goal attempts for the second-best mark in program history and the best in RMAC history. The record of 105 field goal attempts was made against Colorado College on Nov. 26, 1991, before UCCS joined the RMAC.

The Mountain Lions scored the first 11 points of the game and didn't allow a field goal for the first five minutes, 27 seconds, and led 18-7 at that point. Brittany Hernandez had 10 points by the end of the first quarter as UCCS held a 30-17 advantage against the Wildcats. The Mountain Lions added 25 points in the second quarter for a 55-33 lead at halftime. The 55 points were tied for the sixth most in any half in program history and the fourth most for a first half.

UCCS shot 55 percent from the field in the third quarter and Vigil scored nine of her 21 points in the quarter with a perfect three-of-three performance from the three-point line. The Mountain Lions rested their starters for a majority of the fourth quarter but still doubled-up the Wildcat scoring 16-to-8 in the final period. Jennah Knafelc's two free throws with 20 seconds to play pushed UCCS to the century mark for the first time since a 100-point team performance against Chadron State on Feb. 20, 2015.

Vigil added four assists, four steals and five assists to her scoring performance. Hernandez added another 20 points with six steals, five assists and eight rebounds, and Knafelc finished with 16 points and four rebounds. Tori Fisher was a rebound away from a double-double for the second time in the last three games with 10 points, and shared the team rebounding lead with Shannon Kelly. The Mountain Lions made a season-high 17 steals as a team, the most since Jan. 13, 2012.

UCCS will finish the non-conference season on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m., game against Saint Martin's in the Gallogly Events Center. Saint Martin's (1-2) will play in Gallogly on Friday afternoon against Fort Lewis at 3 p.m.
