COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Blake Barnes led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs with three shots in a physical game as the Mountain Lions (10-4, 6-2 RMAC) saw the program-record six-game win streak come in an end in a 3-0 loss to Colorado Mesa (11-3-1, 7-2 RMAC) at Mountain Lion Stadium.
David Meyer made his first goalkeeping start since Oct. 4 and finished with seven saves.
The Mavericks scored in the seventh minute on the third shot of the game, in the goal for either team in the first half.
Cort Searls and
Sebastian Hertzberg put shots on goal in the first half put couldn't put the shots past the Maverick goalkeeper in the opening 45 minutes of the game.
Colorado Mesa added to its lead in the third minute of the second half and in the last minute of the half. UCCS increased its offensive output in the second half in terms of overall shots despite playing down in the second half due to cards.
The Mountain Lions are tied for third in the RMAC with MSU Denver with 18 points in the standings. The two teams both have two games left in the regular season that will count in the seeding for the conference tournament that begins with the opening round on Nov. 3.
UCCS will finish the regular season home schedule on Sunday in a 1 p.m., non-conference game against Westminster. The Griffins (2-10-1) lost to MSU Denver 2-1 tonight in Denver.
