White Scores 38 to Lead UCCS Past Western New Mexico

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior guard Derrick White recorded his second points-assists double-double of the season with a game-high 38 points and 11 assists as the No. 9 Mountain Lions (18-2 / 12-2 RMAC) defeated Western New Mexico (2-16 / 2-12 RMAC) tonight in a 103-91 game at the Gallogly Events Center.

UCCS trailed for only 19 seconds in the first half and used an 11-point rally to take a 36-24 lead with 5:01 in the period. The Mustangs shot better than the Mountain Lions -- 58 to 56 percent from the field -- in the first half, but UCCS lead 48-38 at halftime.

The Mountain Lions built a 16-point lead with 12:36 to play on a 10-2 run, but the Mustangs never let UCCS take complete control and brought it back to 10-point games three times in the final seven minutes. UCCS shot 75 percent from the field in the second half on 18-of-24 shooting to outpace Western New Mexico's 62 percent clip.

White recorded his seventh 30-point game of the season and improved his season total to 524 for fourth in UCCS season records. He matched his career-high with 11 assists and finished with four rebounds and two steals.

Dalton Patten and Alex Welsh each scored 15 points, and Welsh led the duo with seven rebounds. Darius Pardner scored 14 points to lead the Mountain Lion bench and Shane Jensen added 10 points for his most in a conference game this season.

UCCS will remain at home on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m., game against New Mexico Highlands. The Cowboys (4-14 / 4-9 RMAC) lost to Colorado State-Pueblo 77-67 tonight.
