Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Kim Catlett made a match-high 21 kills and added 17 digs to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to a 3-2 victory tonight against Fort Lewis in the Gallogly Events Center. Scores went 15-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-13 for the Mountain Lions (5-7 / 2-2 RMAC).
Both teams nearly mirrored each other in the first two sets, with Fort Lewis hitting .371 in a 25-15 first set win and UCCS hitting .314 in a 25-16 second set victory. The Mountain Lions started the second set with an 8-4 run and three student-athletes finished with four kills in the set to even the match at 1-1.
Fort Lewis scored six of the first seven points in the third set, and was on its way to a comfortable win with a 24-15 lead. The Mountain Lions held off set points eight times off the serving of
Natasha Habert, to pull within one point of the Skyhawks at 24-23. Fort Lewis used a kill to finish the third set and take a 2-1 match advantage.
UCCS rallied for seven straight points early in the fourth set and led by at least four points for the rest of the set to force the deciding fifth set on a 25-19 victory. Catlett had six of the 15 Mountain Lion kills in the set and hit .500.
The Skyhawks took a 4-1 lead before UCCS evened the fifth set up at 4-4. The Mountain Lions used a four-point run to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 lead, and while Fort Lewis tied the set at 10-10, 12-12 and 13-13, UCCS didn't trail the rest of the night and took the match with a 15-13 win in the set.
Catlett finished with her fourth match of the season with at least 20 kills and Habert made 21 digs in her best performance of the conference season.
Madison Palmer made six blocks and Catlett added five as UCCS posted a season-high 11 blocks.
Lauren Hahn and
Cassidy Bush added 13 and 12 kills, respectively, to round out the offensive leaders.
UCCS will be in action again on Friday night in a 7 p.m., match against Western New Mexico. The Mustangs (4-7 / 1-3 RMAC) lost in four sets to Chadron State earlier tonight.
