Jake McAllister and
James Roberts each scored a goal and provided an assist for each other's goal as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (1-3-1 / 1-1 RMAC) defeated Colorado Mesa (3-2-1 / 1-1 RMAC) today in a 3-0 shutout at Mountain Lion Stadium. It was the first win against the Mavericks since 2012 after both teams tied each other in all three meetings in 2013.
A misplaced header by the Mavericks provided the first goal of the game for the Mountain Lions in the 29th minute. The shot came off of a free kick from midfield, and the header attempt ended in the top right corner of the net. UCCS was able to hold Colorado Mesa to no shots for the rest of the half and take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
McAllister placed his goal in the 64th minute into the lower right corner of the goal after a pass from Roberts on the left side. It was the second goal of the season for the freshman, and he returned the favor with an assist on Roberts' goal 15 minutes later. Roberts needs one more goal to move into the top 10 records in goals scored and has 14 in his career.
David Meyer earned his second shutout of the season in as many starts and is in a tie for No. 10 in UCCS career records. He is in a tie for first in total shutouts for an RMAC goalkeeper this season.
The Mountain Lions will be on the road on Friday for a 3 p.m., game at Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks (4-2 / 2-0 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian 2-1 earlier today.
