Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs senior forward
Hannah Levett scored the first and last goals of the night for the Mountain Lions to lead UCCS (2-2 / 1-0 RMAC) to a 3-2 victory against Adams State (1-4 / 0-1 RMAC) at Mountain Lion Stadium. The two goals moved Levett alone into second in UCCS career points and goals scored records.
UCCS took an early 2-0 lead within the first 16 minutes of the game with the opening goal from Levett and an unassisted goal from
Megan Avery. The Grizzlies matched the Mountain Lions' shot count in the first half with seven shots, but the three placed on goal were all saved by goalkeeper
Grace Ramsden, who kept Adams State off the board in the first half.
Adams State broke through in the 68th minute, and then tied the game 11 minutes later with both goals from Alex Sanderson. Levett put a shot on target with 10 minutes to go that was saved by the Grizzly keeper, but her next shot with just less than five minutes to play bounced in off the right goalpost to put UCCS back ahead at 3-2. The Mountain Lion defense kept Adams State from making any more shots in the rest of the game to preserve the victory to start the conference season.
Levett's game-winner was the second for her this season and the eighth of her career, which moved her past Agnes Arnadottir for first in program records. The pair of game-winners this season already put her into a tie for fourth in season records, and she is two away from tying the record with 13 games left in the regular season.
The win tonight was the third victory in the last four games against Adams State, and marked the fifth straight win or tie for the Mountain Lions since 2011. UCCS improved to 3-0 in conference openers in the last three seasons.
The Mountain Lions will remain at home on Sunday for 2:30 p.m., game with Western State. The Mountaineers (3-0-2 / 0-0-1 RMAC) tied MSU Denver earlier today with a 0-0, and enter Sunday's game with four straight shutouts.
